The True Meaning of Christmas
Sometime over 2000 years ago, a young woman gave birth to a son. She was a young teenager, just married. She wasn’t in a hospital bed, but in a drafty old cave surrounded by livestock in the heat of summer, her only help, her new husband. This baby, born into poverty and the cruelness of the elements to a newborn body is the King of Creation. He came to love; he came to die. That night of his birth was the first sacrifice He made to show the unfailing love of the Creator. He left His throne to experience the human condition and ultimately prepare us for his ultimate sacrifice and our redemption.
O’ Holy Night, when mankind was able to see the very face of God. The night the shepherds (those who would see if a lamb was worthy of sacrifice) came and proclaimed the worthy sacrifice had arrived. Mankind destroyed our relationship with God; we could do nothing to fix our mistake. So, He fixed it for us because of His love for His creation. We are not and never will be worthy of it in our own right. What a beautiful love, what a gracious Creator, what a blessed creation. So we remember, the holiest of nights. The night our Savior was born! Merry Christmas!
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” ~ John 1:14
