Homemade Pizza Bagels- Gourmet Fun On A Budget
We had some big expenses come up recently, so we are pinching our pennies this Summer to try and catch up. This means no traveling for us this Summer, so we’ve decided to improvise! We love to cook and bake and watch travel shows about cooking and baking, so we are going to live vicariously through both. We put on a food travel show and they just happened to be in Italy. Bubba was oooing and ahhing at the authentic pizzas that the host was gleefully partaking in. I looked through the fridge and the pantry and we just happened to have all the ingredients for a nostalgic treat I used to make with my mom when I was little. I’m talking, of course. about pizza bagels! Such a simple treat and so much fun for us to make together!
- 10 Plain Bagels
- 1 Jar Marinara Sauce
- 12 Oz Package Mozzarella
- 2 3 oz Packages Large Deli Pepperoni These are the ones typically used for sandwiches.
- 1 Cup Grated Parmesan
Toast the bagels. (This first step is so important to making sure the texture comes out nice and doesn't get too soggy from the Marinara Sauce.)
Place the bagels on a pizza stone and start to add a layer of Marinara Sauce to each bagel. (We chose a thick sauce that wasn't too watery to prevent the bagel from being too soggy. This also adds a nice texture to the pizza.
Add a layer(s) of cheese.
Pile on the pepperoni!
Beware of pepperoni thiefs...
Place in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and toasted on the top. Garnish with Grated Parmesan to your preference. Enjoy!
We are really trying to be intentional about limiting the “things” we buy our kids and invest in memories with them. I hope that Bubba looks back on this experience with as much excitement making these with Victor and I as I have with my own mom.
